I bought a single 'Spider Plant' a couple of years ago.
I put it into some good potting soil and a large pot, then it began to grow larger and put out runners. These runners carry baby plants on them, Growing 'Spider Plant' babies.
When a baby Spider Plant matures, you see a crown of leaves and underneath these leaves are small brown stubby root buds. I take a plastic Coke or Pepsi bottle and fill this with water. Cut the baby Spider Plant from the runner and put the root buds into the neck of the coke bottle. I place the Coke bottle on my bathroom counter where it is cool and slightly humid. In about one week the roots will have grown about one inch long into the water.
Fill one of your plastic pots with compost, poke a hole in the compost and drop the roots into the hole making sure the base of the leaves is above the level of the soil. pat down the potting soil around the roots and water the pot gently.
I keep the new baby plant in my bathroom for a couple of weeks, you may occasionally mist the plant with a fine water spray if the leaves look like they are thin and wilting but don't add too much water to the potting compost.
After about fourteen days move the baby plant to a shaded place. Not in full Sun during the hottest part of the day.
About one month after you began the process you should be able to sell the baby plant at your minimum price.
As plants grow, watch for roots coming from the bottom of the pot. If they do begin to grow out of the pot, pot the plant on to a larger pot with more potting soil. As the plant grows larger you can also increase your sales price.
In my area, Fresno, California, a Spider Plant in a six inch pot retails at about $12,.

After potting on these babies I keep them in good light, not in full sun for a few weeks, to make sure they have healthy roots. I then hold a garage sale, but you could use a 'car boot sale', 'flea market' or 'farmer's market' to sell on the plants for at least $5.00.

I got 12 babies from my original plant in year 1. I sold 10 for $5 each, the remainder are now in my yard growing on to produce more babies this year along with their mother which has about a dozen babies for this year already.

to grow, propagate and maintain. This makes it ideal to sell as a side hustle.
The second year plants that did not sell last year are now potted on into some larger pots, and producing baby plants.
With this update in April of 2019, I have over a dozen babies ready for sale some of them have grown so fast this Spring that I potted them up into much larger pots and added a little gravel to the tops of the pots. The larger pots were bought in from a local Dollar Store, at just $1.20 including taxes. I am looking to sell these at my next plants sale for $10 per plant. I will update you as to what happens there.
I have now earned $390 in just ten months this year. I still have my older plants producing babies for next year. A small cohort of baby plants to over winter and ready to start me off again in the Spring.
I have spent about ten hours in total looking after the plants. Harvesting babies, putting them in water, potting them up in compost.
I have put in more time with plant sales so in that area I have not earned minimum wage but I have generated some income and that is what a side hustle is about.
